Coastal source identification matters
The City identifies flash flooding, storm surge, tropical storms, and hurricanes among Galveston’s flood hazards. Water that crossed the ground or entered during coastal flooding calls for different safety assumptions than a clean interior supply-line leak.
Wait for safe access
Do not enter around energized water, unstable materials, active surge, or evacuation restrictions. Follow official emergency guidance first; property restoration begins only when access is safe.
Ask for a source-specific scope
Once accessible, document the water line and affected levels. Ask what the provider will assess, remove, clean, dry, and monitor—and what repair or contamination work is outside its scope.
